Donovan Returns to Gainesville

The long and sordid saga of Billy Donovan has finally ended, according to epsn.com.  Donovan, who left Florida University to coach the Orlando Magic, then abruptly changed his mind and decided that he didn’t want to leave Florida, so he got out of his contract with the Magic so he could go back and sign with the Gators, who then paid him even more money than they had originally offered him after he first led the team to back-to-back national titles.

Donovan may get a free pass from most of the media, but at best what he did was unfortunate and unprofessional.  At worst, what he did was deceitful and manipulative.  One can argue that Donovan simply made a mistake and did his best to correct it as quickly as possible.  However, not knowing the man, to the casual observer, it looks like he used the Magic to squeeze the Gators for a few more bucks.
