Florida Athletes Suspended

Two University of Florida athletes were suspended indefinitely last week following the news that they had been arrested for purchasing marijuana from an undercover police informant. Brandon James and Brandon Powell will share first names and an uncertain future with the Gators’ football and basketball teams, respectively. Powell played only about two minutes per game last season for the Gators basketball team. He was expected to compete with two new recruits, Nick Calathes and Jai Lucas, as well as returning guard Walter Hodge for playing time next college hoops season.

Powell had previously made headlines for throwing a punch on his way to the locker room as fans stormed the court after Vanderbilt defeated the Gators late last season.
