Ohio State University has decided to give their men’s basketball coach a raise of about $500,000. This brings his total annual salary around $2.5 million per year, which is near the amount that the football coach at OSU receives. He also gets tons of other bonuses, like free jet travel and the like, and there are more incentives in his contract if he continues to have success at Ohio State. The Buckeyes are expected to have a much tougher time this year, as they have lost Greg Oden and some of their other more famous players from the team that got to the NCAA National Championship game last year.
All the while Ohio State University is contending a judicial decision that awarded their former coach, Jim O’Brien, millions of dollars in compensation for what apparently was an illegal termination of his job. I’m not exactly sure if either of these two events are related, and if they are, why they are happening at about the same time. Rather odd, but I guess when you have the kind of athletic budget that OSU has, you can gust give out millions and millions whenever you please.
