Whenever we go to SportsIllustrated.com to check out a college basketball story, we inevitably wind up at Luke Winn’s Tourney Blog, which is one of the best of the bunch out there. If you go to the blog, you’ll see that on April Fools Day Luke picked his All-Second Weekend Team, meaning that he picked the five guys who were the best of the group in the second weekend of play- the Sweet Sixteen and the Elite Eight. He came into it with one idea in mind- to have the team made up of only winners who have moved onto the Final Four. However, he could not help but make an exception for Stephen Curry. His team:
G – Stephen Curry (Davidson)
G – Derrick Rose (Memphis)
G – Chris Douglas-Roberts (Memphis)
F – Kevin Love (UCLA)
F – Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina)
Agree with the picks, although if Winn were going to be ultra strict to his ideals (only pick players who are still alive in the tournament), who would replace Curry? Kansas is underrepresented, but that’s more a compliment about their even distribution than anything. The Final Four Blog is going to go with Darren Collison of UCLA, who, although he was not spectacular in the second weekend, brings a bunch of experience to the backcourt that Rose does not have.

Brook and Robin Lopez have decided to leave Stanford after their sophomore seasons. They will enter the upcoming NBA draft as a tandem. The two twin 7-footers from Fresno, California were not completely determined to go pro until a little while ago, especially Robin Lopez. They both knew that their careers would eventually bring them to the NBA, however, Stanford sometimes has a way of keeping players around. So what do you think about this decision? Is it a wise one for their respective careers? What will happen to Stanford?
The Final Four Blog thinks that this decision isn’t a good one. The Lopez brothers, with the help of just one good outside player, could have won a national championship by their senior year. If they had decided to stay, they would enter the NBA like Roy Hibbert, as a complete product, and thus more valuable on the draft market. What would have happened if Brook had gone pro and Robin had stayed at Stanford? That might have been the better option- to see how one does without the other, because they’ve played their whole lives on the same team. In the NBA they will be apart for the first time.
