Memphis Goes to China

Memphis’ college hoops players, along with others from Conference USA teams, are headed to China to participate in a tour of the country and some exhibition basketball games in association with the national team. John Calipari, head coach of the University of Memphis, hosted several coaches from China recently, and has decided to make a trip there as part of a five-year program.

The Final Four Blog is a big fan of this program. It works out great for the players, who will get to experience a foreign country. It works out great for the coaches, who will get to widen their horizons with basketball programs in China, one of the world’s fastest-growing countries in terms of basketball stature. The fans in China will probably love to see some of the best American college hoops teams in action.

So what’s not to like? Well, it probably would have been more fun for the audience in China if Derrick Rose and Chris Douglas-Roberts were playing with the Memphis Tigers, but they are probably trying to keep fit and healthy running up to the NBA Draft.
