San Antonio Nets $47 Million from Final Four

Well, we’re not sure that the use of the word “net” was quite correct, economically. But according to the Associated Press, the city of San Antonio, the host city of last year’s Final Four, received over $47 million dollars in revenue from having the event, and some of the associated events, in their city. The research did not calculate in the cost of tickets, nor the money spent from fans who attended the game who were from San Antonio, so the numbers might be a little off. However, according to the article, nearly all of the attendees of the Final Four were from somewhere other than the city of San Antonio. The AP reported that the NCAA senior vice president for basketball and business strategies, Greg Shaheen, said:

“Year after year, the continued success of the men’s Final Four demonstrates it is one of America’s great events. The support from our corporate champions and corporate partners for the men’s Final Four and all 88 NCAA championships is strong and growing.”
