While it’s not college basketball, per-se, this is a blog about U.S. basketball players who are under the age of 19, so it will include current NCAA athletes. Anyways, the United States Under 19 National Basketball Team, comprised of players likeĀ Howard Thompkins (Georgia), Aston Gibbs (Pittsburgh) and Tyshawn Taylor (Kansas), is undefeated in the international competition known as the FIBA World Championship. It’s taking place in new Zealand and it is comprised of the best basketball nations in the world, like Australia (also undefeated at this point), Canada, France, Spain, and Argentina. The US recently beat Lithuania.
Here’s a look at Team USA’s official page at the FIBA website. While it’s not an All-Star list of basketball players, these are going to be names you hear called during some point next year. Some college basketball players avoid these intense, sometimes physical tournaments during the offseason to avoid injury, but others think it’s a good way to get more name recognition, get better and improve their game before the college hoops season. Go Team USA!
