Although Nike and LeBron James have made sure that the tapes of this incident never reach the light of day, there was one moment at the Nike LeBron James Skills Academy when the King himself, LeBron James, got dunked on. Jordan Crawford delivered the posterization. Apparently the footage was so raw and the dunk so savage that LeBron and camp organizers say fit to confiscate all of the footage of the dunk. The story has gone viral, and everyone wants to weigh in on the drama. But only Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com has the inside scoop from the college basketball prospective. Who is Jordan Crawford? He’s a sophomore at Xavier. Goodman gets his opinion on what happened. It might be the only first-hand account of the dunk from one of the people involved. The quote from Crawford ends, “… so he jumped late. It was two-handed.”
Do you think this is a big publicity stunt? Do you think that this is just building a bunch of hype so that the internet video of it- when it is eventually released- can become an even bigger sensation? And do you think this dunk would have been that big of a deal if LeBron or Nike had never tried to have it confiscated? As is the case with a lot of things on the internet these days, if you try to censor something, people will seek it out that much more vehemently. It has a sort of ironic/opposite effect. If this tape ever does get out, it will be the biggest basketball video since LeBron shot that half-court shot in that interview.

While the season is still pretty far away, it’s never too early to look ahead at all of the awesome games that you ought to get tickets to see. Pat Forde, who always comes through with some good college sports articles to pump you up about the upcoming games, is here with another article that’s really going to make you want to check out the already-available season tickets and other college basketball tickets at StubHub.com. He’s highlighting the red-hot rivalry games, picking winners and telling you why they’re going to be good games.
It might come as a surprise to you that Duke-North Carolina isn’t in one of the top three spots on Forde’s list. It’s buried under some Big East and Big Ten matchups that might be even more interesting next year. Don’t get us wrong, the stadiums should be going crazy for the Tobacco Road rivalry games, but there are plenty of other nice matchups to view this upcoming season. Get in on the action as early as possible!

While it’s not college basketball, per-se, this is a blog about U.S. basketball players who are under the age of 19, so it will include current NCAA athletes. Anyways, the United States Under 19 National Basketball Team, comprised of players like Howard Thompkins (Georgia), Aston Gibbs (Pittsburgh) and Tyshawn Taylor (Kansas), is undefeated in the international competition known as the FIBA World Championship. It’s taking place in new Zealand and it is comprised of the best basketball nations in the world, like Australia (also undefeated at this point), Canada, France, Spain, and Argentina. The US recently beat Lithuania.
Here’s a look at Team USA’s official page at the FIBA website. While it’s not an All-Star list of basketball players, these are going to be names you hear called during some point next year. Some college basketball players avoid these intense, sometimes physical tournaments during the offseason to avoid injury, but others think it’s a good way to get more name recognition, get better and improve their game before the college hoops season. Go Team USA!

Sometimes things can move pretty quickly during the offseason, especially in the world of college basketball coaching. Just the other day, for example, Notre Dame’s assistant basketball coach Sean Kearney left for the head coaching job at Holy Cross. His assistant job was filled almost immediately by Martin Ingelsby, another assistant coach (actually the coordinator of basketball operations) at Notre Dame who was promoted to the head assistant coaching position.
The moves ought to work out great for both coaches. Kearney was able to win the position at Holy Cross because their former head coach, Ralph Willard, left to work under RickPitino at Louisville. Both Kearney and Ingelsby are being promoted. For Inglesby , the assistant job at Notre Dame is a great blast off point for a future head coaching gig, as in the case of Kearney. Or, if Fighting Irish head coach MikeBrey ever retires or gets another head coaching job in the NBA or something, he’s in a good position to swoop in. Congratulations are in order from us here at the Notre Dame Blog to the coaches on their promotions! nice work, gentlemen!

What’s the best college basketball arena? It’s a question that gets overlooked sometimes, but for right now, at least at CBSsports.com, arenas are getting their proper treatment from the college hoops crowd. This is the very, very slow part of the year for NCAA basketball news, as the NBA Draft is through with and there are still months and months to go before any proper college basketball competition takes place. Why not talk smack about the gyms?
Right now CBS is taking a look at two arenas in the Big East, Syracuse’s huge Carrier Dome and UConn’s Gampel Pavilion. Both of these teams are very good but they have very dissimilar arenas. Gampel is relatively small (just over 10,000 seats) compared to the Carrier Dome (over 33,500). But does size make that big of a difference when it comes to the fan’s experience. Obviously it’s more fun to be at the arena, so more tickets would help more people get into the action. But sometimes the arena’s louder when it’s smaller. Make sure to vote for your favorites.

The Jimmy V Classic, one of the most prestigious college basketball tournaments in the nation, has announced this year’s participants, which include Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Butler and Indiana. The games are set to begin on December 8, 2009, at Madison Square Garden.
Jimmy Valvano was a college basketball coach for four college basketball teams, including Johns Hopkins, Bucknell, Iona and North Carolina State. He won the college basketball national championship with NC State in 1983, and his frantic run around the court is seen on every major NCAA Tournament highlight reel. He battled cancer for years, finally succumbing to the disease in 1993, but he founded the Jimmy V Foundation to help promote cancer research. The annual tournament is a benefit for that charity.
Butler will play Georgetown and Pittsburgh will play Indiana. Any early picks? Well, Pitt lost some key players from last season, including DeJuan Blair, and Indiana has been struggling to get back to peak form since the Sampson debacle a year back. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Georgetown returns several key players from last year’s team, part of the big, bad Big East. Butler will rank in many preseason Top 25 lists and they’re one of the most consistently good mid-majors. Tickets should sell out fast!

Xavier Henry, a 6-6 guard who was supposed to go to Kansas next season, put some of the Jayhawks faithful supporters on high alert when it was announced recently that the Henry family would discuss Xavier’s future at Kansas in a family meeting. But Kansas hoops fans can lay their fears to rest, because Xavier is coming to Kansas. Hetexted a sports radio program to tell them, “I’m going to Kansas and that’s final.” One wonders whether that was a statement said by Xavier or his brother, C.J., or someone else at the family discussion.
In other news… Coach Krzyzewski of the Duke Blue Devils has announced that he is not going to seek the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coaching job if their current head coach, Phil Jackson, retires. He said in a recent news conference:
“I’m not going to the Lakers. They have one of the great coaches in the game. I don’t know where that rumor started, but there has been nothing done like that, and I’m not leaving Duke. Whatever you hear about anything like that, I will never leave Duke until I leave coaching.”
